CHS frosh/JV fall to Columbia

<span>Playing their first games of the season, the Chester High School freshman and junior varsity boys basketball teams dropped a pair of games to Columbia on Nov. 24.</span>

<span>Drake Bollman scored 13 points, but the Yellow Jacket freshmen dropped a 44-29 decision to the host Eagles. Columbia held a 17-10 lead at halftime and held a 36-23 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.</span>

<span>Colin Wingerter and Jacob Cushman combined for 13 points for the Chester frosh, which are off until Dec. 10 when they host Perryville in their home opener. They Yellow Jackets will open Black Diamond Conference play the next night on the road at Sesser-Valier-Waltonville.</span>

<span>In the junior varsity contest, Columbia raced out to a 12-6 lead that it expanded to 23-11 at halftime. The Eagles then took a 32-17 advantage into the fourth quarter in a 44-31 victory.</span>

<span>CHS freshman Colin Wingerter paced the junior varsity with 11 points, while Nick Heffernan and Jake Haberberger combined for nine more.</span>

<span>The junior varsity begins action in the six-team Perryville JV Tournament on Monday against Perryville at 6 p.m. Chester will also play Valle Catholic on Wednesday at 6 p.m.</span>

<span>The finals will take place on Saturday, with the fifth place game set to tip at 10:30 a.m. with the third place game to follow. The championship is scheduled to take place at 1:20 p.m.</span>

<span>Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students, with all games being played at Perryville High School.</span>
