DHS graduate David Rodely enters Arkansas State HOF

A 1986 Du Quoin High School graduate, David Rodely was inducted into the Arkansas State University athletics Hall of Fame on October 30, 2015 for his lengthy list of accomplishments in four years with the Red Wolves' track and field program.

Rodely originally signed his letter of intent to play football for ASU, with track and field as a secondary sport. While at DHS, he was an all-conference offensive lineman and named an all-star by both the Evansville Sunday Courier & Press and the Southern Illinoisian.

But it wasn't long before, during his freshman season with the Red Wolves, Rodely decided to build on focus on the shot put and discus throw. His senior year at DHS, he was the IHSA Class A State Champion in the latter, 5th place overall in the former. That was after taking second place in the discus his junior year, and sixth during his sophomore season.

A four-year letterman for A-State track and field, Rodely was a 1991 All-American in discus throw with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. Rodely owns the program record for discus throw with a launch of 57.25m/187-10.00 set in the 1991 season. He broke ASU's discus record as a freshman, then exceeded the previous record more than 50 times during his four seasons.

During his outdoor career, he earned Most Outstanding Performer in the American South Conference Outdoor Championships twice, with championship performances in the 1990 and 1991 season. Rodely owns top-10 all-time marks at A-State in outdoor shot put (3rd, 18.28m/59-11.75), javelin throw (2nd, 57.10m/187-04.00) and indoor shot put (7th, 16.76m/55-00.00).

His shot-putting improved as his career progressed, to the point that Rodely competed in both the 1992 and 2000 Olympic Trials in the event.

Rodely was joined by Michael Cline (football), Carlos Emmons (football), Paul Pilla (pole vault) and Kyle Richardson (football) in the 2015 class of Hall of Fame inductees.
