AT&T honors 4C's, promote new tech program
The Christian Community Compassion Center won an AT&T "Investing in Illinois Award" for its non-profit work to help people in Illinois. The 4C's will receive $2,000 from AT&T to be used in supporting ongoing programs.
"There are great non-profit organizations improving lives in Illinois," said James Maurer, the vice president of external affairs at AT&T. "By supporting these organizations, we're strengthening the communities we serve."
State Representative Brandon Phelps nominated the 4C's for the recognition from AT&T Illinois. "It's always good to bring back money and help people, especially with the holidays approaching," Phelps said.
The AT&T "Investing in Illinois Awards" provide resources and recognition to organizations and programs that improve lives in their communities and the state.
Maurer and AT&T have strong ties to the community, previously purchasing a ice machine for the Eldorado Golden Circle, as well as making donations to area organizations.
Maurer also highlighted "Digital You," AT&T's new resource to help tech beginners of all ages. Digital You helps with the basics of using a smartphone or tablet, and keeping online information private and secure. Maurer also mentioned that Digital You helps users with disabilities activate accessibility features through training resources and tip sheets.
The program also offers "Digital Compass," a free interactive game developed by Common Sense, that teaches 6-9th graders about the real-world impact of their online choices.
