Ellis Grove resident arrested on sex assault charge

On October 26, Randolph County Sheriff Shannon L. Wolff reported the arrest of 23-year-old Austin J. Curtis of Ellis Grove for alleged criminal sexual assault.

Wolff stated the arrest is the result of a combined effort by the sheriff's office, Chester Police Department, Carbondale Police Department, Waterloo Police Department, Randolph County State's Attorney's office and the victim.

Presently, Curtis is charged with one count of criminal sexual assault. Bond was set at $75,000 and Curtis posted bond and was released.

Wolff stated Curtis allegedly met his victim on different social media sites, met with the victim, and the sexual assault allegedly occurred.

The investigation continues. Although it may be difficult to come forward, Wolff urges any other potential victim(s) of Curtis or anyone else committing this type of crime to contact his office at 618-826-5484 Ext. 503, or their local police department.
