VOLLEYBALL: Elverado wins first Regional match since '09
For the first time since 2009, Elverado picked up a win in a volleyball postseason game on Monday night, defeating Galatia 25-15, 25-18 in round one at the Christopher Regional.
Tori Ehlers and Ellie Winthrop were dominant at the net for the Lady Falcons, registering 12 and 5 kills respectively. The pair also combined for 6 blocks with Ehlers tallying 4 of them.
"We played really well tonight," said EHS head volleyball coach Donette Wheatley. "We set the ball up and played lots of offense - and played it well. Tori and Ellie owned the net and the setters set it up every chance they could. It was fun to watch the girls be in control of the match. Good win for the Falcons!"
Winthrop led Elverado in digs with 4, Baylie McClanahan had 3. Maycee Bowlin had a team-high 10 assists.
The Lady Falcons (12-10) will meet second-seeded Norris City in the semifinals at Christopher on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The winner moves on to the championship on Thursday at 6 p.m. against either Christopher or Thompsonville.
