Please, don't burn leaves in ditches and streets

Du Quoin City Hall is appealing to local residents NOT to burn your leaves in streetside ditches are in the streets and alleys.

Doing so fills ditches with debris and creates a safety hazard for passing motorists.

Burning leaves in the streets damages both asphalted and oiled and chipped streets.

City ordinance clearly bans burning leaves in ditches and streets and can be punishable by local fines which are spelled out in the ordinance governing it. Also, be a good neighbor. Burn only during lawful hours and NOT when it is windy.

The Du Quoin ordinance says ALL leaf and yard waste fires should be out by 7 p.m.
