WHAT'S UP WEEKEND: Randolph County events for Oct. 9-11
The following is a summarized list of events occurring in Randolph County the weekend of Oct. 9-11.
1. "Striking the Colors" - 250th anniversary of the surrender of Fort de Chartres:
October 10, 2015 marks the 250th anniversary of the French surrender of Fort de Chartres featuring a military encampment commemorating the surrender of the last French fort at the end of the French and Indian War.
This event is significant in the arena of colonial reenactment and history, as the final commemoration of the French and Indian War 250<sup>th </sup>celebrations, giving visitors and reenactors the rare opportunity to take part in the surrender of a colonial fort.
Event highlights will include period crafts, music, military demonstrations, food vendors, mock battles, raising and lowering of British and French colors, and lectures from local historians.

2. Steeleville Jaycees Oktoberfest:
<span>Now in its 33rd year, the Steeleville Jaycees hold their annual Oktoberfest on Oct. 9 and 10 in downtown Steeleville. This year's theme is "Superheroes and Villains."</span>
3. Chester at Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton football:
<span>The Chester High School Yellow Jackets, currently ranked sixth in the state in Class 2A by the Associated Press, try to spoil C-Z-R's Homecoming festivities. Kickoff at Spann Field in Christopher is scheduled for noon Saturday.</span>
4. Haunted Woods:
<span>The Evansville Fire Department's "Haunted Woods" fundraiser begins Oct. 9 and runs every Friday and Saturday night from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. through Oct. 31.</span>
5. LEGO fun:
<span>Help Chester Public Library staff create a spooky LEGO display or create your own. Event occurs Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon.</span>
