VOLLEYBALL: Elverado suffers first conference loss
The Lady Falcons were able to take a set from Cobden, but the Appleknockers wound up prevailing in the decisive third set to take Thursday's volleyball match 25-12, 22-25, 25-9 to hand Elverado their only conference loss of the year.
"We played a great match," said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley. "We didn't play enough offense the first game, took control the second game and played a ton of offense, then Cobden woke up. They absolutely took control of the third game by putting us on the defensive the rest of the night."
Tori Ehlers had 5 kills to lead Elverado, Ellie Winthrop added 4. Haily Falter had a team-high 5 digs, Winthrop finished with 4.
EHS made $303 for Women With Hope on their "pink-out" night. Half of that money was donated back by 50-50 winner Nicci Steele in the name of her daughter Ashlyn Buck and son Mason Olenkiewicz.
Elverado's junior varsity team finished their conference schedule a perfect 8-0, winning 25-17, 25-14. Ehlers had 11 kills, Kaley Graff had 4 digs.
EHS also took the freshman match, 25-18. Jessica Elson had 3 kills for Elverado.
The Lady Falcons (10-8, 7-1) are at Murphysboro on Tuesday night.
