GOLF: Lady Panthers headed to Sectional
Led by second-place overall individual Sarah Breslin's 83, the Lady Panthers are heading to Monday's Carterville Sectional after placing second at the IHSA girls golf Regional in Mt. Carmel on Wednesday.
The Lady Aces took advantage of hosting the event on their home course, dominating the field by 33 strokes with a score of 328 to claim the Regional championship. Pinckneyville (361) was followed by Nashville at 383, and the three teams will be playing again on Monday at Crab Orchard Golf Club for the right to move on to the State Finals.
Mt. Carmel's Abbey Leighty had the top score of the day with a 73, ten strokes better than anyone else.
Also helping get the Lady Panthers to the next level were Megan Breslin - tied for sixth overall - with an 87, Ellie Carlson with a 93, and Trista Ogilvie with a 98. Pinckneyville fifth and sixth golfers, Graci McDaniel and Erica Crews, shot 111 and 112 respectively.
Du Quoin's girls finished the event in 11th place out of 12 competing squads. The Lady Indians were led by Carlie Daffron's 105. Katlyn Swallers (115), Gabrielle Alvarado (118), Maddison Dorsey (125) and Camryn Little (126) also competed for DHS.
