Prep Volleyball: Harrisburg sweeps Redbirds
The Harrisburg High School volleyball team tripped up West Frankfort late last week, knocking off the Redbirds 25-19 and 25-14.
Jessica Shwartz had 12 serving points for the Bulldogs and finished with 10 assists, while Lilee Robinson had nine serving points and eight assists.
Libero Devin Butler had six digs, while Hannah Bartok finished with eight. Bryleigh Buchanan had 16 kills to go along with one block and Matty Hawkins finished with nine kills and three blocks.
Harrisburg head coach Heather Cox said the tempo could have been better, but her Bulldogs did what they had to do to get the win.
"Our serving has been very successful the past few games and our defense has also picked up, which leads to a more efficient offense."
The Harrisburg junior varsity team lost in three sets, falling 19-25, 25-10 and 12-15.
EHS falls in straight sets to Hamilton County
The Eldorado High School volleyball team lost in straight sets to Hamilton County last Thursday, falling 25-19 and 25-8.
In the game, Mary Mitchell was 5-for-5 on sets and 12-for-12 on spikes with two kills. Mitchell finished 4-for-5 at the line with four points, one ace and 16 digs.
Rachel Durham was 22-for-25 on sets and 6-for-6 on spikes. She went 5-for-6 on serves with six points and six digs. Brooklynn Peavler was 4-for-5 on sets and 7-for-8 on spikes, while finishing 5-for-5 on serves with five points and 13 digs.
Abby Steed was 13-for-13 on sets and 24-for-27 on spikes with seven kills. Steed finished 2-for-3 on serves and 2-for-3 on blocks, finishing with seven digs.
Lexi Clore had six points and 13 digs, while Kaitlyn McGuire had two points, once ace and seven digs.
Jordan Bailey went 7-for-7 on sets and 7-for-9 on spikes with one point and one digs.
Whitney McGuire had one block, while Tia Briddick and Kaitlyn Etienne each had one dig and Karli Etienne finished with three digs.
EHS is slated to play at Christopher tonight (Monday) and will play at Duff-Kingston Tuesday and Wednesday.
