Prep Golf: Harrisburg edged out by Benton at SIRR Tournament

The Harrisburg boys' golf team battled all kinds of weather elements during Tuesday's Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Tournament at Hickory Ridge Golf Course.

In the end, it was Benton that ultimately rained on the Bulldogs' parade as Harrisburg lost by one stroke, finishing with a 317 as Benton claimed the Ohio Division with a 316.

Massac County was third with a 319, while West Frankfort (342), Herrin (355) and Murphysboro (437) rounded out the field.

Three Bulldogs earned All-Conference honors as Ben Fowler had a 74 for Harrisburg to finish second overall, while Patrick Bittle finished with a 79 for fifth place. Garrett Jenkins tied for ninth overall with an 81 and Bryce Beal's 83 rounded out the four-person scoring for Harrisburg.

Camden Schiff (91) and Jacob Mills (95) played as individuals for the Bulldogs.

On Monday, Harrisburg won a triangular meet at Herrin, shooting a 155, beating out Herrin (179) and Eldorado (217).

Fowler had an even par 36 on the day, taking medalist honors, while Jenkins shot a 39. Bittle and Schiff each had a 40, while Beal and Mills both had a 47.

For Eldorado, they were led by Jack Mings' 48, while John Amberger carded a 55. Ben Byrd and Josh Rice each finished with a 57.

Ely Boulds had a 60 and Sam Coker carded a 61 playing as individuals for the Eagles.

On the girls side Monday, Harrisburg lost a dual match as the Tigers topped the Bulldogs 162-222.

Herrin's Macey Mooneyham took medalist honors with a 38, while Harrisburg was paced by Alexa Burtis' 47.

Skylar Street had a 54 for the Bulldogs, while Alli Ferrell finished with a 55 and Annabella Robinson turned in a 66.
