GOLF: Lady Panthers win SIRR crown
Ending Nashville's stranglehold on the event, Pinckneyville's girls golf team won first place at the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Tournament for the Mississippi Division on Tuesday, edging out the second place Hornettes by three strokes.
Lady Panthers Sarah Breslin (2nd), Megan Breslin (3rd) and Ellie Carlson (10th) all placed inside the top ten individually, shooting 81, 85 and 98 respectively. Carterville's Avery Rea was the medalist with an 18-hole score of 77.
Graci McDaniel's 101 completed Pinckneyville's team score of 365. Trista Ogilvie (104) and Erica Crews (111) also competed for PCHS at the conference tournament, held at Hickory Ridge in Carbondale.
The victory keeps the Lady Panthers' current winning streak alive - the team has not been beaten since finishing 2nd at the August 29th Okawville Invitational. They'll try to add to their list of victims on Wednesday at Carterville.
Du Quoin finished fifth in the Mississippi Division with a total of 479. Carlie Daffron (106), Gabrielle Alvarado (112), Camryn Little (128) and Maddison Dorsey (135) were the Lady Indians' top four.
Carterville finished the event in third place, Anna-Jonesboro was fourth, Sparta sixth. Nashville had won the tournament the previous five years.
Massac County won the Ohio Division portion of the tournament by 22 strokes over second-place Herrin.
