Du Quoin teachers hope for early contract talks

During Thursday's meeting of the Du Quoin Board of Education, Du Quoin Education Association representative Jean Ann Mathis on behalf of the DEA, shared that the teacher's association will be looking forward to the upcoming contract negotiation process which they hope will begin later in the school year during the month of January with a the hope of a new contract in hand by the end of the school year.

Also on the public agenda, Brandon Ragland a parent of a middle school student spoke to the board regarding a concern with certain aspects of what he feels is the overuse of technology in certain classrooms. It is called the "flipped classroom" where students do homework assignments online, then get help with those assignments at school. He also complimented the after school program and the positive impact it has made on students.
