VOLLEYBALL: Lady Indians beaten by Carterville in straight sets

Du Quoin fought back from an early deficit, but still wound up on the losing end of a 26-24, 25-19 score at Carterville on Tuesday night.

The Lady Indians were down 18-8 in the first set and fought back to lead 24-22, but the Lady Lions rattled off four straight points to steal the set.

With injuries and minus another player missing the game, Du Quoin was playing four freshmen at different times mixed with their four seniors and one junior.

"(Carterville's) early lead in the first game was truly due to nerves," said DHS head coach Jo Dill, "because once they settled in, they were playing really well that game."

"The second game we had seven service errors and lost by six points. Tough, aggressive serving is a major part of our game plan, so I will accept an occasional missed serve, but seven was too much to overcome."

Kenzie Jackson had three kills for DHS, Jordyn Bullar had two, and led the Lady Indians in digs with 15. Jackson added a pair of blocks. Alaina Caldwell finished with 11 digs, Katie Smith eight, Jackson seven.

"Overall though I was extremely happy with the contributions from the young players mixed in with the seniors," Dill said.

The Lady Indians are back home on Thursday night when they host Pinckeyville.
