VOLLEYBALL: Pinckneyville goes 2-3 at Benton Tournament

Pinckneyville finished Saturday's Benton Volleyball Tournament with a record of 3-2, winning two of their three pool play games before splitting a pair of matches in the Silver Division later in the afternoon.

In pool play, the Lady Panthers knocked off Valmeyer in three sets, 24-26, 25-20, 15-11, and defeated Sesser-Valier in straight sets, 25-9, 25-14. PCHS fell to Benton 25-15, 25-22 to finish second in their pool.

In Silver Division action, Pinckneyville was edged by Fairfield 25-20, 26-24 before defeating Woodlawn 25-9, 25-20.

Mady Epplin received an all-tournament team selection at Benton, leading the team in digs for the event. Kill leaders included Sophie Keith, Keeley Grey and Emma Banach. Mayci Doerflein was tops in assists.

The Lady Panthers host Sparta on Tuesday night for their volleyball home opener in Pinckneyville.
