GOLF: Lady Panthers dominate Carterville; PCHS boys come up empty at Benton
The Lady Panthers golf team continued their strong start to the 2015 fall season on Tuesday, dominating Carterville 167-213 at Pinckneyville's home course, Red Hawk Golf Club.
Freshman Megan Breslin shot a nine-hole score of 37 to lead PCHS and finish second overall behind medalist Avery Rea from the Lady Lions, who finished with a 36.
Sarah Breslin and Ellie Carlson weren't far behind, each shooting 40 for the Lady Panthers. Trista Ogilvie (47) Erica Crews (50), Gracie McDaniel (51) and Taylor Wildermuth (51) also participated for Pinckneyville.
Pinckneyville's boys team showed some signs of improvement, but failed to earn a victory in Tuesday's four-way match at Benton. The Rangers took home the win with a 146, followed by Massac County (151), Carterville (169), and the Panthers (201).
Grant Thompson led PCHS with a 45, followed by Tyler Restoff (48), Blaine Schubert (50), Hunter Clark (52), Justin Keller (54) and Luke Silbe (59).
The next match on the schedule for the PCHS boys (2-20) is September 9 at Murphysboro. The Lady Panthers (17-4) host the Panther Invitational this Friday at Red Hawk.
