Unit 24 Experience Award Banquet held
Two Saline County 4-H members were among the 23 honored at the Experience Awards Banquet and Reception for the 2023-24 4-H year.
The banquet, held on Sunday, April 27 at the Big Red Barn in McLeansboro, was organized by the Extension Program Coordinators from each county with youth represented: Paula Hatfield (Hamilton), Nancy Lambert (Saline) and Amy McCarty (White).
The State 4-H Experience Award offers recognition for members across the state who took part in activities and events in the dimensions of Participation, Community Service, Leadership and Project Learning. To qualify for the award, 4-H members must have expanded their 4-H experience beyond just the county level.
The Emerald Award recognizes youth who completed eight or more experiences in one of the three dimensions, excluding Participation, with at least four of those experiences beyond the county level and at least two at the state, national, or international level.
This year, we are proud to honor Emerald Level Award winners in Project Learning, Wyatt Arnold and Hannah Wenzel. All award winners were presented with a certificate, a backpack, 4-H beach towel and sunglasses.
Congratulations go out to Wyatt and Hannah and to all the Honorees.
Breeding and Market Livestock registration forms
The Saline County 4-H Livestock Registration Forms, for members recording livestock for exhibition, are due to the Extension Office by Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Members must fill out a Livestock Registration form for market animals as well as for breeding animals, including cattle, dairy, swine, sheep, goats (meat and dairy) and rabbits. The form has a place to record the following information: Species, Breed and Registration Number if animal is a registered purebred, Birth Date of Animal, Sex of Animal, and Scrapie Tag or 840 Electronic Tag Number.
Members must declare a breed on the form to show in purebred classes and are asked to fill out a separate form for Breeding Livestock and for Market Livestock. This includes any market animals already recorded at the Beef, Swine, Sheep and/or Meat Goat Weigh-ins.
This is an absolute deadline. Animals not reported by May 15 will not be eligible for 4-H exhibition or auction in July.
A copy of the Livestock Registration form was included in the April/May 4-H newsletter. Please contact Nancy at nlambert@illinois.edu if you need to request a copy of the form.
Families may scan and email the completed form to Nancy or bring the form to the Extension office. If you stop by after office hours (8 a.m. to 4 p.m.) place the completed form in the white 4-H mailbox under the flagpole outside our office and send me an email to let me know.
