Chester FD provides mutual aid to Perryville fire

<span>The Chester Fire Department was paged out Tuesday morning to provide mutual aid with the Perryville Fire Department for a structure fire at 1143 Tyler Branch Rd. near Perryville.</span>

<span>According to Chester Fire Chief Marty Bert, firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the rear of the house, which was vacant, and fire spreading through the attic.</span>

<span>"There was a 'For Sale' sign in front of the house," Bert said. "The homeowner was mowing grass and cooking."</span>

<span>According to media reports, the homeowner had come out to mow the yard and was frying fish at the rear of the home. The fryer is being ruled as the cause of the blaze.</span>

<span>The home later had to be demolished due to damage and safety concerns for firefighters.</span>

<span>The Ellis Grove Fire Department was paged out to provide station coverage at the Chester firehouse. Chester firefighters were paged out at 9:14 a.m. and released by the Perryville Fire Department at 2:15 p.m.</span>
