GOLF: Herrin wins four-way match at Red Hawk; Panthers 2nd
Herrin spoiled the varsity boys golf home opener for Du Quoin and Pinckneyville on Friday, shooting 177 as a unit to slip by the Panthers (190), Waltonville (198), and the Indians (256).
Waltonville's Sean Scott carded a nine-hole score of 38 to take home the medalist award.
PCHS's top scoring individual was Grant Thompson with a 44, which placed him in a tie for third overall among the 22 golfers competing at Red Hawk Golf Course. Blaine Schubert was a stroke behind Thompson with a 45. Hunter Clark (49), Justin Keller (52), Kyle Luke (56) and Tyler Restoff (57) also competed for the Panthers.
For the Indians, Nick King led the way with a 55, John Monroe shot 58, Kyler Lively 65, and Noah James 78.
Pinckneyville (2-5) travels to Herrin on Monday to face the Tigers, Goreville and Benton. Du Quoin (0-3) is off until Saturday's Massac County Invitational.
