Prep Golf: Mt. Carmel knocks off Harrisburg at home

The Harrisburg High School girls' golf team got a 39 from senior Alexa Burtis in a losing effort to Mt. Carmel, falling 161-207.

The Aces' Abbey Leighty took medalist honors with a 38 Monday at Shawnee Hills Country Club.

Mt. Carmel finished with a 41 from Mary Schroeder, while Mallory Raber carded a 40 and Jordan Keets fired a 42.

Following Burtis' 39, Skylar Street finished with a 47, while Alli Ferrell carded a 55 and Annabella Robinson put up a 66.

The Harrisburg High School girls are off for a week, while the Bulldog boys are at West Frankfort today (Tuesday) and will compete in the Massac County Invitational this upcoming weekend.

Eldorado 209, Carterville 209

In their first match of the season, Eldorado and Carterville pulled even in a 209-209 finish at Crab Orchard Golf Club in Carterville.

Jacqlyn Artman and Kileah Lowery also tied for low round as each fired a pair of 47's on the afternoon.

Keeley Tate and Derian Corn figured into the scoring for the team's 209 score as Tate finished with a 52 and Corn added a 63.

Eldorado head coach Greg Goodley liked what he saw from his group in the early going.

"Artman and Lowery both did some things that show they can drop their score as the season moves forward," Goodley said. "I thought Tate played well and just had one tough hole that hurt her score. Derian playing her first match managed her game well for the first time out."
