Jimmy Thomas Ashford
Jimmy Thomas Ashford, 81, of Simpson, IL passed away on August 14, 2015 at Hardin County General Hospital. He was born in Golconda, IL on October 10, 1933 to Alonzo (Lon) and Myrtle (Potts) Ashford. Jimmy was of the Baptist faith having made his profession of faith at Dutton Chapel Church. Jimmy was a hard worker throughout his life beginning his career as a mechanic at the Ford Garage in Rosiclare, IL. He later worked as a mechanic for Buel Burgess and later operated the Sinclair Gas Station in downtown Rosiclare. After closing the station, he returned to work for Buel Burgess. Jimmy eventually became employed for Minerva Oil Company as an underground mine mechanic. His last place of employment was at Ozark Mahoning in various capacities eventually promoting to Mill Foreman before retiring. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wilma (Smock) Ashford. To this union were born three sons and two daughters: Jimmy Ray (Carol) Ashford of Goreville, IL; Kathy (the late Allen Brickhaus) Brickhaus of Golconda, IL; Joseph (Joe) Ashford of Rosiclare, IL; Karen Dunstan of Golconda, IL; Frank Ashford of Paducah, KY. He had eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Ruby (the late Hosea Hogg) Hogg of Vienna, IL and his brother, Lawrence Ashford of Golconda, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lon and Myrtle Ashford; half-brother, Claude Ashford; and half-sister, Beulah Ashford. Aly Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Per his wishes, Jimmy will be cremated and laid to rest at a private graveside service which will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at Empire Cemetery in Elizabethtown, IL. Reverend Bob Patton will officiate.
