TV Scorecard: What's renewed? What's canceled?
The dark comedy, starring Laura Dern, struggled in the ratings for both seasons, but had earned a loyal following. Created by Mike White, the series followed Amy (Dern), a self-destructive ex-executive who tries to get her life back together after a nervous breakdown at work and a stint in rehab.
Enlightened narrowly escaped cancellation after its first season. However, shortly after Dern picked up the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, the pay cable network granted Enlightened a second season while canceling comedies Bored to Death , How to Make It in America and Hung. For its second season, HBO moved the show to Sunday and paired it with buzzy hit Girls .
