American Legion: Post 167 pounds way into championship game
Harrisburg Post 167 pounded out 18 hits as they moved into the championship game, beating Carmi 14-0 in six innings in Wednesday night's semifinal of the 24th District American Legion baseball tournament.
Noah Vallette and Drew Woolcott each had three hits, while Bryce Emery, Britton Riden, Patrick Bittle, Jordan Gould and Josh Pilkington all had two hits.
In the semifinal win, Vallette pitched five innings, striking out nine and allowing just two hits. Cooper Patterson pitched a scoreless sixth, striking out two.
"We are just putting it all together right now with great pitching, good defense and an explosive offense," Harrisburg head coach Doug Emery said. "Noah is really throwing the ball well, which should give him some confidence going into his senior year of high school. We still have a lot of work to do, but at least we made it to the championship game."
Metropolis, who eliminated Carrier Mills 8-5 Wednesday night, was slated to play Carmi Thursday at 5 p.m. The winner got Harrisburg in the championship game at 8 p.m.
A Harrisburg loss would put them in a sudden-death game Friday at Fairfield.
