VOLLEYBALL: West Frankfort handles DHS in straight sets
The Lady Indians dropped their home volleyball opener on Tuesday night as West Frankfort left town with a 25-13, 25-12 victory at Du Quoin High School.
Hope Fenton, Amanda Atteberry and Jordyn Bullar each had two kills to lead Du Quoin's offense. Alaina Caldwell finished with one kill and a team-high seven assists. Kenzie Jackson added a kill and a block.
"I think tonight's loss boiled down to serve receive," said DHS head coach Jo C. Dill. "They had a really off night in terms of passing and therefore struggled to get going offensively."
"I have to hand it to West Frankfort, they came ready to play and were really tough on defense. Even our well-hit balls were getting picked up."
For the Lady Redbirds, Jaidon Sailliez led the team in kills with four, Morgan Griffith, Kiarha Wilce and Bobbie Jo Wegrzyn each added three. Wilce topped the stat sheet in digs with eleven, Terrilynn Summers finished with ten. Mackenzie Campbell had sixteen assists.
The Lady Indians will head to the Marissa Tournament beginning Tuesday night. The event runs through Saturday.
