GOLF: PCHS's Thompson 8th at SIRR Tourney; Panthers 5th as a team
Pinckneyville's Grant Thompson shot an 86 at Tuesday's Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Tournament at Hickory Ridge Golf Course, placing him 8th individually on the Mississippi Division side to earn an All-Conference medal. The Panthers finished fifth as a team.
Nashville took home the win with a four-man score of 329 for the 18-hole event. Carterville was second at 336, followed by Sparta (375), Anna-Jonesboro (375), and the Panthers (380). Carterville's Jacob Eklund rolled to the individual title with a 69, bettering second place Tyler Wall from Nashville by five strokes.
Blaine Schubert (96), Hunter Clark (98), Justin Keller (100), Tyler Restoff (103) and Kyle Luke (104) also participated for PCHS.
Du Quoin received no team score, sending only three golfers - Nick King (99), Kyler Lively (103) and John Monroe (110).
Benton won the Ohio Division portion of the tournament, shooting 316, one stroke better than Harrisburg. Massac County's Kyler Owens shot a 72 to win the individual crown.
The Panthers are at Sparta with Red Bud and Okawville on Wednesday.
