Prep Baseball: Bulldogs Bust Out Sticks

The Harrisburg baseball team took full advantage of its weekend home slate, taking two of three from the opposition.

The Bulldogs swept a double header from Du Quoin Saturday, winning Game 1 10-2 and Game 2 15-3.

The lone loss came Friday in a 4-2 defeat to Muphysboro.

In Friday's loss, the Bulldogs had six hits as Matthew Phipps, Britton Riden Austin Hefner, Aaron Johnson, Noah Vallette and Bryce Emery all had one hit, while Riden and Hefner each had an RBI.

Emery took the loss on the mound, going 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on five hits, while striking out two and walking two.

In Game 1 Saturday, Harrisburg pounded out 11 hits as Sykes Thompson and Johnson each had multiple hit games, while Thompson finished with two RBI.

Cooper Thompson, Carson Batts, Phipps, Vallette, Hefner, and Emery all had a hit. Phipps, Cooper Thompson, Vallette, Hefner and Batts all had an RBI.

Batts picked up the win, going the distance, as the senior allowed two runs on five hits, while striking out one and walking one.

In the Game 2 win, Johnson made just his second appearance on the mound this year, helping Harrisburg to the win.

Johnson went 3 2/3 innings, allowing three hits, while striking out two.

Cooper Patterson got the start, but lasted just 1 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits, while walking three.

The hit parade was on display again for Harrisburg as the Bulldogs roped out 16 hits as Hefner paced HHS at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Phipps went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, while Sykes Thompson and Emery each had a pair of hits.

Isiah Saulsberry, Tyler Lightner, Patrick Bittle Riden and Vallette all had hits.

Eldorado 9, Gallatin County 6

A late rally by Gallatin County wasn't enough as Eldorado posted a 9-6 win over the Hawks Friday.

Gallatin County scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't get out of the hole where Eldorado scored in every inning but the fifth and sixth.

The Eagles put up two runs in the first and second inning and tacked on three runs in the third inning. Eldorado then went up 8-2 after scoring a run in the fourth inning and added one more in the seventh.

Eldorado cranked out 12 hits on the day as Kale Oglesby, Adam Collier, Josh Pilkington and Richard Graceffa each had two hits on the day.

Bryson Sigler had a team-high two RBI on the day, while Max Kaiser, Stanton Hathaway, Oglesby, Pilkington and Graceffa each had one.

Drew Woolcott, Collier and Kaiser each scored two runs.

Gallatin County had just four hits on the day as Seth Ramsey, Kory Hise, Patrick Clark and York each had one hit. Ramsey also drove in three runs, while York scored three.

Christian Dalton picked up the non-conference win for Eldorado, going the distance, allowing six runs (five earned) on four hits. Dalton struck out nine, while walking eight.

Clark and Ramsey combined in the loss for Gallatin County. Clark went two innings, allowing four runs (earned) on six hits, while striking out four and walking three. Ramsey picked up the last five, allowing five runs (three earned) on six hits, while striking out eight and walking four.
