Pinckneyville appoints Zoning Administrator and Board of Appeals

Carrie Gilliam was appointed Zoning Administrator and department head/Economic Development Coordinator for the city at $19.91 per hour for no more than 40 hours per week.

The council also approved Mayor August Kellerman's slate of candidates for the Zoning Board of Appeals. The board will be Chairman- Mike Kovic for a seven year term, Rita Schwebel for six-year term, James Schillinger for a five-year term, Robert Brand for a four-year term, Jack Stone for a three-year term, Fred Pabst for a two-year term and Thomas Hagene for a one-year term.

In other business, the board:

• approved proposed changes to the drainage system along Monarch Ave. in Perry Pointe subdivision. Doug Bishop said the original plans were altered four yeas ago to include a six-and-a-half-foot ditch which is a maintenance nightmare. The new plan runs pipe to the same spot. Work will begin in two weeks. Larry Loos was the low bidder on the project.

• heard from Jamie Benbrook and Shane Baker that field #4 at the fairgrounds has major drainage issues. In order for the Pinckneyville Jr. Baseball/Softball League to have a fall season, the field needs repair. Baker said total cost on the dirt work and grading is around $3,750. The Optimist Club donated $500 towards the project. The city approved payment of $2,500 to Larry Loos who will do the work. Doug Kellerman offered to pay the remaining $750. The council debated the use of a top dressing, but opted not to pay for it at this time. Baker said some other fields also need work, but he hopes the league can finance the repairs or do them themselves.

• approved a revolving loan for Kellerman Feed & Supply for $30,000 at a rate of four percent for up to 10 years. Commissioner Leonard Heisner asked Kellerman to provide a different type of collateral than inventory per the local bankers' recommendations. Kellerman said he had a list of other collateral for the city, but had not gotten it to the Economic Development Coordinator before the meeting.

• approved the purchase of a new police car for approximately $28,000 with the trade in of a high-mileage car.

• approved the annual flu/pneumonia clinic for Sept. 22. Flu shots will cost $45 and pneumonia shots will be $100. The city pays the cost for employees. The pneumonia shots are for life.

• approved the purchase of a six-inch Insta Valve from IMCO for a water main on Mildred Drive at a cost of $4,975, including installation.

• Approved payment of $750 to the IEPA for a permit request to discharge storm water at the new soccer park.
