Deer accident season upon us

Saline County Sheriff Keith Brown reported Monday that over the weekend two vehicles struck deer on highways within Saline County and reminds motorists to use caution driving after dark.

"The harvest season has the deer running from combines and loosing a source of food and habitat that has been available all summer," Brown said.

"They are grouping and moving about the land. Motorists should use caution at all times and in every area of the county."

This is also the rutting season for deer and they will be preoccupied and less wary of traffic.

"One way to help yourself is to use your bright headlights while driving at night. It will extend your night view and give you a few critical extra seconds to respond by braking," Brown said.
