Firefighters with the Chester and Ellis Grove fire departments responded to the report of a structure fire at 444 Kaskaskia Street on Monday at 9:48 a.m.

Smoke was reported to be coming from the residence, which is a rental property owned by Joleen Bowen, according to Chester Fire Chief Marty Bert. Brian and Sarah Bean were the reported residents.

Bert said no one was injured in the fire, which was confined to the attic. It is being ruled as an electrical fire.

"The homeowner said the fuse box blew, she turned it off, turned it back on, heard a funny noise and saw smoke coming out of the eaves," Bert said.

Bert said firefighters used fire extinguishers and avoided using their water hoses so that it wouldn't cause water damage to the house. All fire units were back in service at 12:27 p.m. before being toned out again at 1:30 p.m. for a rekindle at the same address.
