J. C. Barger

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[J. C. Barger, 84, Harrisburg, died 12:44 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, 2008 at Harrisburg Medical Center.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 at Cedar Bluff Social Brethren Church with the Rev. Mandy Curry officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Bluff Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2 at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills.

He was born Oct. 1, 1924 in Saline County to Claud and Reba (Davenport) Barger. On July 12, 1946, he married Floetta Lay. She preceded him in death Nov. 13, 2007.

He served in the Army during World War II and was a retired UMWA coal miner. He was a member and deacon of Cedar Bluff Social Brethren Church in the Delwood community.

He is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Tom) Fitts of Harrisburg and Janice (Leonard) Brantley of Harrisburg; one son, Mike (Cathy) Barger of Pascagoula, Miss.; three brothers, Lonnie Barger of Delwood and Loy and Wendell Barger of Harrisburg; six grandchildren, Larry Fitts, Lisa Bell, Angela Schoonover, Kristy Beers, Kit Brantley and Chris Barger; and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Sue Barger; one sister, and two brothers.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Cedar Bluff Social Brethren Church or Cedar Bluff Cemetery.
