M. Muriel Smith
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[M. Muriel Smith, 80, of Momence, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at Stonecrest Manor in Momence.
She was born on March 6, 1928, in Hamilton County, the daughter of Lemuel and Violet Carter Karnes. She married Clyde Smith Jr. on May 9, 1946, in Galatia. He survives.
Survivors include her husband, Clyde Smith Jr. of Momence; two daughters and one son-in-law, Judy Sanders of West Frankfort and Sherry and Glenn Jinks of Duncanville, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Gloria Smith of Galatia; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Edward and Carol Karnes of Stevenson, Ala., Alford Karnes of Washington, Fred Karnes of Tennessee and Conard and Marie Karnes of Logan; three sisters and three brothers-in-law, Jean and Randy McDowell of Bradley, Joyce and Charles Devoney of Mt. Home, Ark. and Janice and David Harrison of Bourbonnais; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
She was a homemaker.
She was active with the Commodities Program in Momence. She enjoyed making crafts, collecting dolls, fishing and playing cards. She was also an avid organ, guitar and piano player.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at Tates Chapel in Galatia with services starting at 2 p.m. Blake Bradley will officiate. Arrangements are in the charge of Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia.
