Paul E. Alexander

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Paul E. Alexander, 77, of Cave-In-Rock, passed away at his home at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2009.

He was born on Sept. 17, 1931, in St. Charles, Ky., to Paul E. Alexander and Ressie Marie Knight Sharp. Paul married Ruby McCollum on April 30, 1955.

He was a retired U.S. steelworker in Gary, Ind., an Army veteran of the Korean War and was a 50-year member of the Shawneetown American Legion Post No. 585.

Paul is survived by his wife, Ruby Alexander of Cave-in-Rock; four daughters, Linda Alexander of Cedar Hill, Tenn., Tina and Jackie Vaughn of Shawneetown, Connie Alexander of Shawneetown and Carrie Alexander of Streator; two sons, Steve and Dottie Alexander of Junction and Donny and Crystal Alexander of Shawneetown; nine grandchildren, Paul and Tommy Hall, Lori Douglas, Steve, Dylan and Ethan Alexander, Tabitha and Michael Vaughn and Trever Seifort; three great-grandchildren Alexia Goemaat, Paul Alexander Hall and Eden Douglas; and lifelong friend, Tressie Pindell of Junction.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Paul Richard Alexander; one sister, Golden Marie York; and lifelong friend, Sidney "Curly" Pindell.

Visitation for Paul will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Funeral service will be at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2009, with the Rev. Fred Birch officiating. Burial will follow the funeral service at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown with American Legion Post No. 585 conducting military rites.
