OBITUARY: Joseph Louis "Joe" Hernandez

Joseph Louis "Joe" Hernandez, 48, of Harrisburg, passed away at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Joseph was born on June 27, 1965, in Isabela, Puerto Rico, to Michael Hernandez and the late Carmen (Aviles) Hernandez. On July 17, 1987, he married Michelle Baxley and she survives. Joseph worked at the Saline County Detention Center where he was a correctional officer.

Surviving family members include his wife: Michelle Ann Hernandez of Harrisburg; four children: Joseph Michael (Rebecca) Hernandez of Harrisburg, Joshua Dylan Hernandez of Harrisburg, Brooklyn Ann Hernandez of Harrisburg and Breanna Luz Hernandez of Harrisburg; grandson: Jason Zander Hernandez of Harrisburg; father: Michael Hernandez; brothers and sisters: Michael (Linda) Hernandez of Galatia, Carmen Luz (John) Reynolds of Michigan, Carmen Ann (Everett) Roe of Shawneetown, Yolanda Hernandez of Texas, Wanda (Wayne) Stevenson of Harrisburg, Charles Hernandez of Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother: Carmen (Aviles) Hernandez.

Funeral services for will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Larry Bond will officiate and burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
