New county website unveiled

Randolph County's newest county government website was unveiled late Thursday night at www.randolphco.org.

The new website allows visitors to pay bills online, see tax information, browse Geographic Information System (GIS) maps, weather forecasts and view U.S. Army Corps of Engineers river depths among other options.

"We are very excited for this to happen," said Randolph County Board of Commissioners Chairman Marc Kiehna during Friday's meeting of the County Board. "We have been working on a new website for several months.

Kiehna stated that the county's previous website went live in the late 1990s and did not give administrators much flexibility to make improvements.

The website also features a scrolling photo gallery of pictures from locations and events in the county that occur during the four different seasons.

"We are extremely excited about this," said Randolph County Economic Development Coordinator Chris Martin. "Not only what's on it now, but the potential for flexibility and growth."

Martin stated that the new website template will allow citizens to have greater access to forms and information from their own homes.

"There's a lot of info on there that wasn't on the old site," he said. "There will be a lot more in the future."

Kiehna said hotel/motel tax funds paid for the website's creation and Martin added that the county generates $34.5 million in tourism every year.

"What we have tried to do is give people a sense of what it's like to live here and work here," Martin said.
