Tillie (Browning) Smith

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Tillie (Browning) Smith, 87, of Sparta, but formerly of New Haven, died Sunday, July 25, 2010, in Sparta.

Tillie was born in New Haven on Feb. 24, 1923, to the late James and Mary (Smith) Browning. On Jan. 16, 1943, she married the love of her life, William Smith. Over the years, Tillie was very active taking care of her family, she loved to be outside tending to her garden and flowers. She was an avid piano player and enjoyed playing for the senior citizens. She had been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Elks. Tillie was a Presbyterian by faith. She was a good wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she will be missed.

Tillie is survived by her husband, William Smith of Sparta; a daughter, Susan Pirtle of Sparta; two sons, Gary (Jeanette) Smith of North Carolina and Lonnie (Barbara) Smith of Florida; one sister, Mamie Buttry of Norris City; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and nine brothers and sisters.

Services for Tillie will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Union Ridge Cemetery outside of New Haven.
