Wanda June Maksin

Wanda June Maksin, 88, of Elkville, passed away at 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014 at the Parkway Manor in Marion, Ill.

Wanda had been a homemaker and had worked at P.R. Mallory in Du Quoin and the Dowell Post Office. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. She was also a member of the Du Quoin V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and was an avid bingo player.

She was born Sept. 19, 1925 at Hurst, Ill., the daughter of James Gideon and Margaret (Keenan) Russell.

She married George Maksin on Aug. 13, 1945 at Chicago, Ill. and he survives.

She is survived by her husband of Elkville, two daughters - Deborah June Funk and husband Charles of Lakeland, Fla. and Penry Leek and husband Steve of West Frankfort, Ill., 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Fr. Joseph Oganda officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.

Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to Sacred Heart Cemetery or Masses and will be accepted at the funeral home.
