Michael Brian Shafter
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Michael Brian Shafter, 60, Murphysboro, passed away unexpectedly at his home.
He is survived by his wife Martha Olga Shafter; and her four sons, David and wife Neely, Hector and wife Maria, Jesus and Lupe and Carlos and wife Isabel. Mike is also survived by his mother, Lynette Peek Shafter of Weston, Mass.; his sister, Belinda Shafter-Davenport and husband Kent; his brother, A. James Shafter and wife Virginia as well as many stepgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Albert J. Shafter.
After graduating from Harrisburg High School he served in the United States Army, then went on to receive both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern Illinois University. He then went on to work for the Illinois Department of Corrections. He recently retired from there.
The family is being served by Walker Funeral Home of Carbondale.
Visitation was 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010. Services were 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010. Interment followed at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg.
