Everett E. 'Big E' Evans
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Everett E. "Big E" Evans, 72, rural Golconda, passed away 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah, Ky.
Everett was born Aug. 13, 1938, in Harrisburg. He was the son of William Cecil Evans and Lois (Bath) Evans. Everett was united in marriage to Sheron C. (nee Smith) Huston on July 1, 1988, in Paducah, Ky. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Tara Hobbs and husband Bruce of Salem; a son, Michael Evans of Vienna; a stepson, Eugene C. Hutson and wife Leslie of Metropolis; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carolyn "Sudie" Mosby and husband Eddie of Chicago and Linda Anderson and husband the Rev. Ken of Moultrie, Ga.
In addition to his parents, Everett was preceded in death by a stepson, William R. Haynes; a stepdaughter, Dee Miles; and a sister, Doris Ann Vinson.
Everett was employed at the Illinois Department of Corrections. He began his career as a correctional officer at the Joliet Correctional Center, later transferring to Stateville Correctional Center, Vienna Correctional Center and finally the work camp at Dixon Springs. He retired with the rank of major on Jan. 1, 1990.
Everett was a member of the Illinois Police and Sheriff's Association. He was also a supporter of the Beggs-Gurley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5222 in Vienna.
Everett was of the Baptist faith. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish. He also enjoyed hunting, especially rabbit hunting. Everett was noted for his talent in barbecuing and always served as the cook at deer camp.
Everett was devoted to his family, whom he loved, and was very proud of and provided for. He especially cherished his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10 at the funeral home.
