Lafern Edwards
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Lafern Edwards, 97, of Carterville, formerly of Ridgway, passed away at 7 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at her daughter's home in Carterville.
She was born on July 18, 1913, in Union Ridge, the daughter of Lowell John and Mary (Grant) Dagley. Lafern married George M. Edwards on Dec. 23, 1933, at Concord. George preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1975.
She was a member of the Union Ridge Presbyterian Church and belonged to several church clubs, Gallatin County Home Extension and the Order of the Eastern Star Ridgway Chapter No. 714.
Lafern is survived by two daughters, Frances and David Maloney of Morganfield, Ky. and Mary Ellen Abell of Carterville; six grandchildren, Lowell and Tabitha Maloney of Morganfield, Ky., Daniel and Dana Maloney, also of Morganfield, Steven and Jolynn Maloney of Henderson, Ky., Craig and Allison Edwards of Omaha, Lisa Wilson of Carterville, Ann Edwards and fiancé Daniel Kelso of Lexington, Ky.; and 12 great-grandchildren, Davis, Isabel, Jack, Hannah, Bailey, Max and Alex Maloney, Kristen, Shaun, and Ruby Edwards, Jacob and Jeremiah Schwarm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one son, John Donald Edwards.
Visitation for Lafern will be held from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway. Funeral service will follow the visitation beginning at 2 p.m. at the Union Ridge Presbyterian Church near New Haven with the Rev. Kathy Dunn officiating. Burial will be at the Union Ridge Cemetery adjacent to the church. Memorials may be made to the Union Ridge Presbyterian Church or to the cemetery.
