Obituary: Marion Edward Kallenbach

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Marion Edward Kallenbach, 86, of Carmi, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at Deaconess Hospice Care in Evansville, Ind. He was born Dec. 2, 1924, in Emma Township, White County, the son of Lawrence S. and Florence A. (Edwards) Kallenbach. He married Thelma York on Oct. 27, 1955, and she survives.

Marion was a member of the Crossville United Methodist Church and a World War II Marine veteran. He began his career in education in Crossville as a teacher. He later served as principal in Clinton and Waterloo. When he retired, he was assistant superintendent of the Eldorado school system. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Adult Education Program at Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg. For a short time, he was a real estate broker. Memberships include Rotary International (Paul Harris Fellow), American Legion and the White County Retired Teachers Association. Woodworking was one of his favorite pastimes.

Survivors include his wife, Thelma of Carmi; daughter Cindy Kiehl and her husband Tom of Grayville; brother Vernon Kallenbach of Irving, Texas; sister-in-law, Vergene Kallenbach of Crossville; nieces, Debbie Brown and Barbara Kallenbach; and three cousins, Evalyn Bradshaw, Eleanor Townsend and Glenna Chandler.

He is preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Florence Kallenbach; and two brothers, Vincent and Harold Wayne Kallenbach.

Visitation is 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Cook Funeral Chapel in Carmi. Funeral is at noon Saturday, with burial with military rites in Oak Grove Cemetery in Grayville.

Memorials may be made to the White County Retired Teachers Association and will be accepted at Cook Funeral Chapel.
