Obituary: Hazel Lorene Shelton

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Hazel Lorene Shelton passed away at 9:38 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

She was born Sept. 11, 1932, in rural Vienna, the daughter of the late Arvel and Retha (Hines) Murrie. She married Bill J. Shelton on Dec. 16, 1950, in Vienna, and he preceded her in death Jan. 4, 1967.

Mrs. Shelton was a 1950 graduate of Vienna High School. She later worked as a caregiver at the former Mount Shelter Care Home. Hazel was a member of Gilead Cumberland Presbyterian Church and enjoyed embroidery, reading, working crossword puzzles, collected chickens and loved watching soap operas, especially "As the World Turns" since its inception to television.

Hazel is survived by her daughter, Madeline and her husband David Vinyard of Eldorado; six grandchildren, Brenda and her husband David Rushing of Stonefort, Bill and his wife Nora Bullock of Grantsburg, Sgt. Brannon and his wife Lisa Bullock of Ft. Drum, N.Y., Shane and his wife Carrie Vinyard of Benton, Shanna and her husband Jamey South of Benton and Shaura Braden of Thompsonville; 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Hazel was also anticipating the birth of a great-granddaughter due in November of this year, Emma Lorene Vinyard.

Also surviving are her siblings, C.L. Murrie, Tom Murrie, Glenna Collie and Arlene Miles all of Vienna, Shirley Combs of Indiana, Gladys Street of the Reevesville community, Beverly Duer of Tunnel Hill, Louise Mechling of Grantsburg; and several nieces and nephews, cousins as well as many dear friends and neighbors.

In addition to her parents and husband, Hazel was preceded in death by a niece and a nephew.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at the Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna with the Rev. Bud McDannel officiating. Interment will follow at the Gilead Cemetery in Simpson.
