OBITUARY: Christine Blackwell Foster

Christine Blackwell Foster, 94, of Carterville formerly of Eldorado, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Herrin Hospital, surrounded by her family.

Graveside services were 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Wolf Creek Cemetery in Eldorado, with Brother John Yeo officiating.

Christine was born March 31, 1918, in Christopher, to James Aird and Jean (Wood) Brown. She married Wilbourn D. Blackwell in 1946 in Eldorado. He preceded her in death April 17, 1979. She then married Carl Foster in 1986 in Roxanna and he preceded her in death in 1993.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Bernet of Carterville; son and daughter-in-law, Wilson and Linda Blackwell of Lakewood, Calif.; grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff Bernet of Carterville, Mindy and Josh Combs of Carterville, Andy and Tracy Blackwell of Lakewood, Calif., Scott and Laura Blackwell of La Mirada, Calif., Ryan and Lindsey Blackwell of Lakewood, Calif., Lindsay and T.J. Johnson of Ashville, N.C., and Kristi Blackwell of Bellflower, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Abby, Megan and Nathan Blackwell, Gregory Dill III and Chase and Isabella Combs; and special nieces and nephews, Paul and Becky Jaap, Jason Jaap and Christy Jaap, all of Gladewater, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; brothers, Hugh, Wilson, and James Brown; sister, Evelyn Lamb; and son-in-law Bill Bernet .

She was a homemaker. She also worked for Federal Wholesale in Eldorado and Sears in Chicago.

Christine was a member of First Baptist Church in Carterville.

She enjoyed watching game shows and golf. She also loved to watch the hummingbirds in her backyard. She was an avid reader and was known for her sweet tooth and love of candy.

Most of all, Christine enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
