Massachusetts in need of blood

The state's blood supply has dipped to less than optimal levels, prompting the American Red Cross to cut blood shipments to area hospitals.

The move comes after a flurry of heat-related cancellations of blood drives last month, which created a shortage of approximately 2,000 units of blood and platelets across the Northeast.
