GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lady Falcons win 7th place game at Chester

A 15-3 fourth period carried the Lady Falcons to a 35-31 win over Valmeyer in the seventh place game of the Lady Jackets Mid-Winter Classic on Saturday in Chester.

The majority of the offensive damage was done at the charity stripe. After Elverado went 1-for-8 at the line in the first three quarters, they converted on 9-of-13 free throws in the fourth.

Allie Whittington led EHS with 16 points, Hannah Alstat had 10, Emma Bigham 4, Tori Ehlers 3 and Brooke Whittington 2.

The Lady Falcons (5-12) host Egyptian on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Elkville. There will not be a junior varsity game that night.

In other results from the Chester tournament, New Athens defeated Dupo 61-29 in the championship, Sparta knocked off Chester 53-47 for third place, and Trico beat Marissa-Coulterville 49-45 in the consolation bracket final.
