"We will also be drawing a 50/50 winner. Volunteers have been selling tickets the past eight weeks and will be available up to the time of the drawing at 6 p.m. They are $5 each or 6 for $25. Right now, the winner will receive $1,000 and hopefully it will be more than that," said Brandy Metten. If you would like tickets, please get a hold of a volunteer or contact the shelter at 618-542-3647.

"Proceeds from the evening will be used to fund operating expenses for upcoming year at the shelter. This dinner is the largest fundraiser the shelter has each year and looks to the community for their support. This past year we have rescued many dogs and cats and have successfully placed them with their forever homes. The Big Mutt campaign to help find forever homes for our dogs over 50 pounds is still going on," she said.

Keep in mind that the shelter does not receive any government funding. Donations are the sole source of income.

The three platinum sponsors for the event this year include; Linzee Insurance, Fenton's Custom & Collision and Du Quoin Service League. There have been many other generous sponsors this year. The shelter is grateful for their continued support.

Donations are needed throughout the year of other items such as food, litter and treats. But also, 125 foot garden hoses, hose nozzles and cleaning supplies. Facebook is a tool the shelter has been using to get the word out for items needed. It is also used to promote the animals are available for adoption. The community has been and continues to be extremely generous in helping rescue and place animals.

You can find the BBQ event on Facebook under Perry County Humane Society Annual BBQ & Auction. There you can see many of the items that will be offered that night.

Tickets are available at the door. They are $10 per person and children under 3 are free.
