Obituary: Robert 'Bob' Maxwell
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Robert "Bob" Maxwell, 86, of Harrisburg passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter and son-in-law at 2:10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012.
He was born on June 22, 1925, to Horace and Roxie (Trammel) Maxwell in Glendale. On Nov. 21,1946, he married Georgia Ann Gibson in Morganfield, Ky. They were married 62 years when the love of his life passed away May 1, 2009.
He quit high school at the age of 17 and joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II. After the war Bob and Georgia briefly lived in Peoria before returning to Harrisburg where he lived the rest of his 86 years. He worked at several gas stations early in his adult life and then was employed by Lloyd L. Parker furniture store until it closed. He ended his working career as a bartender.
Bob was a dedicated member of the Carrier Mills First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Harrisburg American Legion and past member of the Carrier Mills Legion. He was a member of the American Legion Color Guard for many years and seldom missed a military funeral.
Surviving family includes a daughter, Malinda (Monty) Field of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Erin Maxwell and Duncan Maxwell of California, Brandi Field of Chatham and Courtney Field of Carrier Mills; one daughter-in-law, Donna Jones of Ben Lomand, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Mary Maxwell of Manteno; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Robert Dale Maxwell; his parents; three brothers; and a sister.
Visitation for Bob will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2012, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at the funeral home with the Rev. Stan Irvin officiating. Burial will be in Lindale Memorial Gardens in Eldorado with military rites by the Harrisburg American Legion, VFW and National Guard. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
