Prep Soccer: Ending On A High Note
The Harrisburg High School soccer team closed out the regular season with a 7-4 win at Mt. Carmel Thursday night.
The Bulldogs close the regular season with a 16-4 record, the best since the program's inception.
"We are entering the playoffs healthy both physically and mentally," Harrisburg assistant coach Mike Butler said. "The team is playing well and they are anxious to start post season play."
Harrisburg found the back of the net two minutes into play when Cody Morris scored on an assist by Anfernee Houston.
Four minutes later it would be Morris providing the assist for Sam Rogers.
At the 17:06 mark it would be Houston again with the assist, this time finding Carver Gregg in the middle of the goal giving Harrisburg an early 3-0 lead.
Mt. Carmel scored one minute later to make it a 3-1 game. Harrisburg again came on the attack when Gregg provided an assist to Morris and giving Cody two goals in the contest and bringing the first half to a close.
In the 43rd minute it was the Houston-Gregg combo again and Harrisburg took a commanding 5-1 lead.
Mt. Carmel would strike again at the 60:36 point and cut the Harrisburg lead to three. Curtis and Morris would hit the back of the net at the 73rd and 74th minute, respectively.
Mt. Carmel would end scoring in the 75th minute of play to give Harrisburg a 7-4 victory.
Harrisburg made the trip to Mt. Carmel missing two starters. Darius Spencer and Eli Questelle filled the void along with Braden McConnell, Tyler Ross, Britain Riden, Chandler Bowling and Dylan Chavez.
"The last two weeks of the season have been an emotional roller coaster," Butler said. "The tragic car accident involving coach Mike Stewart's family has had a huge impact on the team and our community as well."
