Prep Girls Hoops: Harrisburg outlasts Fairfield in OT

A furious finish Tuesday night has Harrisburg back in the regional championship against a familiar foe for the second straight season.

The Bulldogs were pushed to the brink against Fairfield Tuesday night, forcing overtime, as Harrisburg escaped with a 55-49 victory in the semifinals of the Class 2A Regional semifinals.

Harrisburg will now meet up with top seeded Hamilton County, a team they knocked off a season ago in the same game, tonight (Thursday) at 7 p.m.

Senior guard Whitney Younger rose to the occasion, scoring a team-high 12 points to lead Harrisburg in the win.

Younger was the only Bulldog to score in double figures as Harrisburg shot 18-for-57 from the field for 31 percent. The Bulldogs trailed 35-33 going into the fourth quarter and outscored the Mules 10-8 to tie the game at 43-all.

In the extra session, Harrisburg outscored Fairfield 12-6 for the win.

Lilee Robinson netted nine points for Harrisburg, while Kelsey Hobbs added eight points. Hannah Bartok and Alexa Burtis each chipped in with seven, while Matty Hawkins and Lotte Miller each finished with six points.

Hamilton County 56, Eldorado 44

Eldorado's four-game winning streak came to an end as they were eliminated by No. 1 seed Hamilton County earlier in the night.

Caitlin Stafford led the Eagles with 11 points, while Abby Steed scored nine points. Riley Duckworth and Paige Zertuche each added eight points, while Jacqlyn Artman and Dresdyn Bramlet each finished with four points.

"We just couldn't hit any shots," EHS head coach Scott Artman said. "Our defense wasn't as sharp and we just couldn't get anything going."
