TRACK & FIELD: DHS's Jones, Vogel, PCHS 4x400 relay make finals at State

Du Quoin's Caleb Vogel and Devin Jones and Pinckneyville's 4x400 meter relay team of Tristan Fisher, Brian Taylor, Chris Mitchell and Caleb Logan each advanced in their events on Thursday at the IHSA Track & Field State Final meet in Charleston, Ill.

Vogel, a sophomore, was one of fourteen high jumpers to clear the 6'3 mark. He will be joined by Jones on finals day after the fellow sophomore tossed the discus 152'7.

Another Indian, sophomore Zayne Fornear, was just under two inches shy of advancing in the long jump with his distance of 20'4.25.

The Panthers' 4x400 relay team tied the school record time of 3:25.45 to win their heat with the fourth-fastest time of any team in any of the four heats.

PCHS's 4x200 team of Taylor, Mitchell, Logan and Caulden Lazenby finished third in their heat, but came up just over a half second slow of qualifying for the finals. The same four runners competed in the 4x100 relay, but a dropped baton forced a disqualification.

Fisher was also competing in the triple jump, but his distance of 40'10.5 failed to advance from the preliminary round.

Final round results from Charleston will appear in Monday's newspaper.
