Paul L. Phillips
Paul L. Phillips, 83, of Du Quoin, passed away at 3:40 a.m., Saturday, March 23, 2013 at the Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.
Paul had been a buggy runner for Freeman United Coal Company for 43 years. He was of the Christian Church faith. He was a member of UMW of A. Paul was an avid gardener and enjoyed doing yard work.
He was born Aug. 19, 1929 at Hallidayboro, Ill., the son of Robert C. and Marie (Halstead) Phillips.
He married Rose Ann Boros on Aug. 28, 1948 at Murphysboro, Ill., and she survives.
He is survived by his wife of Du Quoin, five children - Valorie Marlow and husband Rich of Pinckneyville, Jimmy L. Phillips and wife Peggy Lu of Pinckneyville, Marjorie Vancil and husband Steve of Broken Arrow, Okla., Ted Phillips and wife Deb C. of Dix, Ill. and Jeffrey Phillips and wife Billie of Du Quoin, 12 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers - Edward Phillips, Jack Phillips, and Robert L. Phillips.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Rev. Benton Fitzjerrells officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin.
Burial will be in the Elkville Cemetery at Elkville.
Friends may make memorials to the Humane Society, St. Bruno School or the donor's choice and will be accepted at the funeral home.
